Core concepts
Vernota records what you stated and when you stated it. This page explains the four ideas behind how it works, without requiring any technical background.
01Proof of integrity
When you save a statement in Vernota, the app generates a unique mathematical fingerprint of your text. This fingerprint is called a proof of integrity. It acts as a seal: if even a single character of the original statement were changed, the fingerprint would no longer match.
The proof is created on your device at the moment you save. Vernota stores the fingerprint alongside a timestamp, so you can later demonstrate that a specific piece of text existed at a specific point in time, exactly as written.
This matters because memory is unreliable, records get altered, and disputes arise over who said what and when. A proof of integrity removes ambiguity by anchoring your words to a verifiable record.
02Verification
Verification is the process of checking whether a statement still holds true. After some time has passed, Vernota asks you to revisit what you wrote and mark it as correct, incorrect, or unclear.
This is not automated fact-checking. You are the one who decides whether your original statement turned out to be accurate. Vernota records your assessment and the date you made it, creating a second timestamped layer on top of the original record.
The combination of a statement and its verification forms a complete record: what you believed, when you believed it, and whether it held up. This is useful for tracking predictions, documenting decisions, and building a personal track record of judgment over time.
03Private by default
Every statement you create in Vernota is private. No one else can see it, search for it, or access it unless you explicitly choose to share it.
There is no public feed, no discovery mechanism, and no social features. Vernota does not analyze your statements for recommendations or advertising. Your data is stored securely and exists solely for your own reference.
If you decide to share a statement, you do so through a proof link, which is a deliberate, per-statement action. Sharing one statement does not expose any others. You control exactly what becomes visible and can revoke access at any time.
04Proof links
A proof link is a unique URL you can generate for any verified statement. It allows someone else to see the statement text, the date it was recorded, and its verification status, all backed by the proof of integrity.
The recipient of a proof link can independently confirm that the statement has not been altered since it was originally saved. They do not need a Vernota account to view or verify it.
A proof link does not expose your other statements, your account details, or any data beyond the single statement you chose to share. You can revoke a proof link at any time, which immediately removes public access to that statement.
